The dive log
What's new in the reef
Every release, in plain water — no jargon, just what changed for you. Your reef's version is on its About page. RSS
v1.31.0
August 25, 2026
- Text your reef. Your NemoMemo can now have a Telegram bot: message it and what you send becomes a memo — a thought, a photo, or a voice note, with `#tags` working just like they do in the app. No app to install, and you're already signed in to Telegram on your phone.
- Connect in two taps. **Settings → Access → Connect Telegram** gives you a code; send it to the bot and that chat is yours. Disconnect any time, from either side.
- Photos and voice notes come in whole. A photo you send gets read by image search the same way an upload does, and a voice note gets transcribed — so the whiteboard you snapped on the way out is findable later.
- Reef keepers: this is off until you set a bot token. See [Deploy → Capture from Telegram](https://trynemomemo.com/docs/deploy). Note that messages to a bot pass through Telegram's servers and aren't end-to-end encrypted.
v1.30.0
August 24, 2026
- Let your scripts write to your reef. **Settings → Tokens** mints an access token you can hand to a phone shortcut, a script, or a bot — no password sharing. The token is shown once; copy it then, and revoke it any time.
- Two kinds of token. *Full access* does everything with memos. *Create only* can post new memos and nothing else — not even read your reef back — which is the one to put on a device that might get lost.
- A token is never a way into your account. No token can change your email or password, make more tokens, or do anything admin. Those still need you, signed in.
v1.29.0
August 24, 2026
- Slash commands in the editor. Type `/` at the start of a line and pick from a little menu: to-do list, bullet list, heading, code block, quote — and `/dory`, which flips the memo into a Dory memo without leaving the keyboard.
- Paste a link onto your words. Select some text, paste a URL, and the selection becomes a link — no more fiddling with brackets.
v1.28.0
August 24, 2026
- Start from a template. The compose box gained a **Template** button with four ready-made skeletons — daily journal, standup, meeting note, and recipe — and the date fills itself in.
- Make your own. Write a memo once, choose **Save current memo as template…**, and it becomes a one-tap starting point. Keep up to 20; they're yours alone.
v1.27.0
August 24, 2026
- Do it to many memos at once. A new **Select** button above your feed (on Home and in the archive) lets you pick several memos and act on them together: archive or unarchive them, add a tag to all of them, or move them to the trash — up to 100 at a time.
- Still nothing is ever lost. Bulk delete uses the same 7-day trash as deleting one memo, and bulk-tagging keeps each rewritten memo's old words in **⋯ → History**.
v1.26.0
August 24, 2026
- Tend your tag garden. A new **Settings → Tags** page lists every tag you use. Rename one and it changes in every memo you own — nested tags included. Rename it onto a tag you already have and NemoMemo offers to merge them into one.
- Renames are never a leap of faith. Every memo a rename touches keeps its old words in **⋯ → History**, so you can always look back — or swim back.
- Paint your tags. Pick from eight reef colors per tag; your tag chips and the sidebar wear them everywhere. Colors are yours alone — reef-mates see their own.
v1.25.0
August 24, 2026
- Every edit is undoable now. Each time you save a memo, the old words are kept. Open **⋯ → History** to see a memo's past versions, compare them line by line with what it says today, and bring one back with a single click. Restoring keeps the current version in the history too — nothing is ever lost by looking back.
- Your history is private. Only you can see your memo's past versions — even on a public memo, other people only ever see the latest words. NemoMemo keeps the last 20 edits per memo, for 90 days.
v1.24.3
August 24, 2026
- Dictation has a sensible speed limit. You can dictate as much as you like — the cap is far beyond what anyone talking into a microphone will reach — but a script hammering it now gets told to take a breath. Nothing changes for normal use.
v1.24.2
August 24, 2026
- The sidebar stays put. Scrolling a long page — the calendar especially — used to drag the whole sidebar up off the screen with it. Now only the page scrolls.
- Everything in the sidebar is reachable again. On shorter screens the account menu could slide off the bottom, putting Settings and Sign out out of reach. Your reef name and your account now stay pinned top and bottom, and the list between them scrolls.
v1.24.1
August 24, 2026
- Housekeeping under the sea — nothing you'll notice, just a tidier reef. 🫧
v1.24.0
August 24, 2026
- Deleting has an undo now. A memo you delete goes to a new **Trash** and waits there for seven days before it's really gone. Restore it with one click, or clear the trash yourself when you're sure.
- Comments and attachments travel with the memo. Restore it and everything comes back exactly where it was — an archived memo returns to your archive, not your timeline.
- While it's in the trash, it's out of sight. Not in your timeline, not in search, not behind an old share link. Its page says the memo swam away, even to you.
- Dory hasn't changed. A memo you asked Dory to forget still fades on Dory's schedule — the trash is for the ones you deleted on purpose. 🐟
v1.23.0
August 24, 2026
- Keyboard shortcuts. Press `c` to start writing, `/` to search, `j` and `k` to walk your feed, `e` to edit what you've landed on, `Enter` to open it — and `?` any time for the whole list. They all stand down while you're typing, so the editor keeps every key it needs.
- Go fish. A button in the sidebar swims up one random memo from your reef. Good for the days you don't know what you're looking for.
- Pin your tags. Hover a tag in the sidebar, click the star, and it stays at the top where you can reach it — up to twenty, in the order you pin them.
v1.22.0
August 24, 2026
- A calendar for your reef. The new Calendar page lays your memos out month by month, with the first line of each one right there in the day it was written. Click a day to read — and edit — everything from it; leave it unpicked and you get the whole month as a timeline.
- On this day. Home now quietly resurfaces what you wrote a month, six months or a year ago today. It only shows up when there's something to find, and it folds away if you'd rather just write.
- Streaks. A small line under the mini-calendar counts the days you've written in a row, and remembers your best run. Nothing appears until you've got one going. 🔥
v1.21.0
August 23, 2026
- Talk instead of type. Tap the microphone in the editor, start talking, and your words appear in the memo as you speak — tap again when you're done. It's the fastest way to get a thought into your reef. (Needs an OpenAI API key on self-hosted reefs; see the deploy docs. Already on for Cloud reefs.)
- Voice clips are still here. The little arrow next to the microphone records an audio clip instead — it attaches to your memo, plays back inline, and gets its own transcript. On reefs without dictation set up, the microphone just records a clip, same as before.
v1.20.0
August 23, 2026
- Voice memos. Tap the new microphone button in the editor to record a thought out loud — it attaches to your memo and plays back right in the feed with a proper player. Perfect for capturing ideas while walking.
- Voice memos you can search. If your reef has transcription set up (one setting, works with OpenAI or a free local Whisper server), every recording gets a written transcript under the player — and searching for something you *said* finds the memo, just like something you typed.
v1.19.0
August 23, 2026
- Search can read your screenshots. When you attach an image, the reef now quietly reads any text inside it — receipts, whiteboards, signs, screenshots — and search finds it. Snap a photo of a recipe or a parking sign; typing a word from it later pulls the memo right up. It all happens on your own server, and self-hosters can turn it off with one setting.
v1.18.0
August 23, 2026
- Find photos by tag. The Attachments page can now filter by tag — pick any tag and see just the files from those memos. Great for pulling up every photo from a trip (`#trips/tidepools` finds them; so does just `#trips`).
v1.17.0
August 23, 2026
- Every to-do, one page. The new **Open tasks** page (in the sidebar under Views) gathers every unchecked checkbox from all your memos in one place — and you can tick them off right there. Each group links back to its memo.
- Snappier profiles and tag lists. Tag counts and profile stats are now computed by the database itself, so they stay instant no matter how big your reef grows.
v1.16.1
August 23, 2026
- The reef loads faster. The app now fetches only what each page needs, so first load is about a third of what it used to download — the editor and code-coloring pieces arrive quietly in the background right when you need them.
v1.16.0
August 23, 2026
- Search got a real upgrade. Search now understands words instead of just matching letters: typing "swim" finds "Swimming lessons", accents don't matter ("cafe" finds "café"), and multi-word searches find your exact phrase even across commas and line breaks. Results come back instantly, even in a reef with thousands of memos.
v1.15.1
August 23, 2026
- Sealing a bottle is now one tap. The message-in-a-bottle dialog swaps the fiddly date-and-time field for tide presets — tomorrow, in a week, in a month, in a year — plus a proper calendar for any other day. It tells you in plain words when your memo returns ("Washes ashore Sunday, August 30 · in 7 days"), and a little bottle drifts further from shore the further out you throw it. 🌊
v1.15.0
August 23, 2026
- Pick how long Dory remembers. A Dory memo can now forget itself after 1 hour, 24 hours, 3 days, or 7 days — pick the window right in the editor or the ⋯ menu. And a plain edit no longer restarts her countdown. 🐟
- "Dory is about to forget this memo." One hour before a memo fades away, a heads-up lands in your inbox with a one-click **Keep it** button. No more silent goodbyes.
- Nudge me about this. Ask to be reminded about any memo at a time you pick — it arrives in your inbox (and by email, if your reef sends mail). Nudges can repeat daily, weekly, or monthly: "every Monday: water the plants." 🔔
- Message in a bottle. The opposite of a Dory memo: seal a memo away and it stays hidden — even from you — until the day you chose, then washes ashore in your inbox. A note from past you. ⏳
- Dory's Memory page. A new **Dory** entry in the sidebar shows everything currently fading (soonest first), your bottles still at sea, and her lifetime count: "Dory has forgotten 214 memos for you." 🫧
v1.14.0
August 23, 2026
- Deep Sea got deeper. The dark theme now matches the look of our website: darker water, crisper edges, and the same clownfish orange and Dory blue everywhere. Your theme setting is untouched — if you were using Deep Sea, it simply looks better now.
- A real fish in your browser tab. The app now shows the NemoMemo clownfish as its tab icon instead of a generic emoji.
v1.13.0
August 23, 2026
- Save any memo as a Markdown file. Every memo's ⋯ → Copy menu now has "Download as .md" — one clean file with the memo's dates, visibility, and tags noted at the top, ready for any notes app. The everything-at-once export moved out of Settings; it lives on as a simple URL for power users (see the docs). 🐚
v1.12.0
August 23, 2026
- Your reef has a time machine (Cloud). Cloud reefs can now roll themselves back to any nightly snapshot: Settings → Backups → "Go back to an earlier day" lists every backup we hold of your reef — pick a date, confirm, and a few minutes later your memos, members, and files are back to that morning. We keep a safety copy of the present, just in case. 🕰️🐠
v1.11.0
August 23, 2026
- Export your memos as plain Markdown. Settings → Account has a new "Export as Markdown" button: one zip with a readable `.md` file for every memo you've written — dates, tags, and visibility noted at the top of each file — plus all your attachments, linked so everything opens correctly in any notes app. Your words are never locked in this tank. 🐚
v1.10.0
August 23, 2026
- Napping reefs can wake themselves up. If a cloud reef's subscription lapses, its page now has a "Wake it up" button — fix the payment and everything is exactly as you left it. No support emails required.
- The 90-day promise is now automatic. Suspended reefs are kept for 90 days and then deleted for good, exactly as our terms say — previously that cleanup was a manual chore.
- "What's new" finds you. After an update, a one-line banner points to the changelog — dismiss it and it stays gone until the next release.
- Sign-in niceties : an eye button to peek at your password, and a heads-up when Caps Lock is on.
v1.9.0
August 23, 2026
- Forgot your password? No more panic. There's a "Forgot your password?" link on the sign-in page now — enter your email, click the link we send, pick a new password. One hour, one use, done.
- Invite your reef-mates properly. Reefkeepers add a member with just a username and email — the new member gets a friendly invite and picks their own password. No more whispering temporary passwords across the dinner table.
- Your account watches its own back. Change your password or email and you'll get a heads-up message — so if it ever *wasn't* you, you'll know immediately.
- Cloud niceties : your claim link now arrives by email the moment you pay, and if a payment ever fails you'll get a gentle note before anything sleeps.
v1.8.1
August 23, 2026
- A proper welcome at the door. New members now get one friendly welcome email when they join — what the reef is about, plus the confirm-your-email link, all in a single message instead of two.
v1.8.0
August 22, 2026
- Your account now has an anchor. New accounts sign up with an email address, and you can sign in with your username *or* your email — whichever you remember first.
- Prove it's really you. On reefs with email set up, you'll get a friendly verification link when you join or change your address. A little badge in Settings shows when you're verified, and a gentle banner reminds you if you're not.
- Already here without an email? Nothing breaks — you'll just see a nudge to add one so your account can always be rescued. (Self-serve password reset arrives in the next release, and it needs a home address to swim to.)
- New cloud reefs start rescuable. The claim page now asks for your email and fills it in from your checkout automatically.
v1.7.0
August 22, 2026
- Put a face on your fish. Settings → My account now has an avatar picker — choose any photo and it's shrunk down and shown everywhere your name appears.
- Profiles worth visiting. Profile pages grew up: a bigger avatar, when you joined the reef, how many memos you've written, your task and link tallies, your most-used tags (click one to filter the feed), and your writing-activity calendar.
v1.6.0
August 22, 2026
- What you type is what you see. The memo editor is now a true rich-text editor: type `**bold**` and it turns bold instantly, `# ` starts a real heading, `[ ] ` makes a clickable checkbox — no more staring at raw markdown symbols. The toolbar works as before, and everything you've already written opens perfectly.
- Comments got the same upgrade. The comment box is the same smooth editor with a compact toolbar — @names and #tags still pop up suggestions as you type.
- Your old habits still work. If you like typing markdown, keep typing it — it just becomes real formatting the moment you finish. And behind the scenes your memos are stored exactly as before, so nothing about sharing, searching, or exporting changes.
v1.5.0
August 22, 2026
- Your words are yours alone. Only the person who wrote a memo or comment can edit it now — reefkeepers can still tidy up (archive or remove things), but nobody can rewrite what you said.
- Edits wear a little badge. When a memo or comment has been reworded, it shows "edited" next to the timestamp — hover to see exactly when. Pinning or archiving doesn't count; only actual rewording does.
- The inbox learned the difference between read and gone. Notifications now flow Unread → Read → Archived: opening one marks it read, "Mark all read" keeps things findable instead of hiding them, and there's a delete button when you want something gone for good.
v1.4.1
August 22, 2026
- Reply to anyone with one click. Every comment now has a Reply button that starts your comment with their @name — so they get pinged and everyone can follow who's talking to whom.
- Notifications drop you right into the conversation. Clicking "so-and-so commented" now opens the whole thread with that comment highlighted — no more landing on a lonely comment floating in open water.
- Editing a comment is just editing the words. The visibility and Dory buttons are gone from comment editing — comments always follow their memo, so those switches never did anything there.
- Visitors know how to join in. Reading a public memo while signed out? The comments now end with a friendly "Sign in to join the conversation." 🐟
v1.4.0
August 22, 2026
- The comment box grew up. It's now the same smart editor you write memos with: type `@` and your reef-mates' names pop up, type `#` for your tags, markdown works, and Cmd+Enter sends. No more guessing at usernames.
- Conversations keep everyone in the loop. When someone replies to a memo you've commented on, you'll hear about it in your inbox — not just the memo's owner. Threads feel like conversations now, not messages in bottles.
- A friendly heads-up about private mentions. If you @mention someone on a private memo, the comment box now tells you they won't be notified — private means private, even from pings. 🤫
v1.3.1
August 22, 2026
- Commenting is easy to find now. Every memo in the feed shows a Comment link — before, it only appeared after someone had already commented, which made starting the conversation a treasure hunt. Click it, say your piece, done. 🐡
v1.3.0
August 22, 2026
- Tougher locks on the reef. Someone hammering the sign-in door with password guesses now gets told to catch their breath and come back in a minute — real members won't notice a thing.
- Sneaky files can't play dress-up anymore. Uploaded files that could act like tiny web pages (like SVGs) now download instead of opening in your browser, so a booby-trapped file can't do anything sneaky. Pictures in your memos look exactly the same as before.
- New passwords need 8 characters. Existing passwords keep working — this only applies when you create or change one. A few extra characters go a long way.
- Quieter armor everywhere. A bundle of behind-the-scenes protections — the kind you never see but always want — now wraps every page and download.
v1.2.1
August 22, 2026
- Restoring a backup waits properly for the reef to come back. The page now genuinely watches for the server to return before reloading, and if you run NemoMemo by hand without something that restarts it, it tells you plainly to start it again instead of leaving you guessing.
v1.2.0
August 22, 2026
- Restore a backup right from Settings. Self-hosted reefkeepers can now upload a backup zip and the reef puts everything back exactly as it was — your current data is set aside safely first, and the reef restarts itself to finish.
- Claiming a new Cloud reef shows its progress. No more silent waiting after checkout: a friendly progress bar and status updates keep you company while your reef is built, and coming back to a claim link you already used now points you straight to your reef instead of showing an error.
- The Backups page now matches how your reef is hosted. Cloud reefs see the truth — backed up automatically every night, with an export button and rollback on request. Self-hosted reefs get both download and restore.
v1.1.0
August 22, 2026
- Back up your reef with one click. Reefkeepers now have a Backups section in Settings — press one button and download your entire reef (every memo, every photo and file) as a single zip you can keep somewhere safe.
- A proper backup guide for self-hosters. The deploy docs now walk through the whole thing in plain steps: safe snapshots, making them automatic every night, free places to store them off your machine, and exactly how to restore.
v1.0.0
August 22, 2026
- NemoMemo Cloud is open! Don't want to run your own server? We'll host a private reef for you at your-name.trynemomemo.com — $1.99/month or $19/year, ready about a minute after checkout. The live demo is the try-before-you-buy.
- Billing that stays out of your way. Reefkeepers get a Billing tab in Settings with their subscription status and a secure Stripe portal for card changes and cancellation — we never see your card.
- Self-hosting stays free, forever. Run NemoMemo yourself at no cost, with the full source code. The only thing reserved is reselling it as a hosted service — that's how the lights stay on.
- A version number that means something. The About page now shows exactly which NemoMemo you're on, with a link to this very changelog.
